Jaguar XKR-S (2008)

The Jaguar XKR-S is a limited edition coupe only version of the XKR. Just 200 were built in all, with only 50 being distributed to the UK market. The car's main differences from the standard XKR are the upgraded engine management system, which effectively let the car off its 155 mph leash, allowing the car to reach 174mph, (but this is still a limited top speed, with closer to 190 mph expected if completley derestricted)

The XKR-S also features an improved suspension and handling pack, which firms up the shocks slightly, reducing the lat bit of body roll, and giving the car increased turn in sharpness, whilst having little or no detremental effect on the ride quality. The improved alcon brakes from the Portfolio special edition are also fitted, and like the portfolio model, the XKR-S is only available in metallic Black, with charcoal luxury leather seats and a bespoke Piano black dashboard, and comes with the Bowers and Wilkins premium soumd system.

Unique lightweight 20" 'Vortex' alloys are standard, which are the same diameter but an inch wider than the standard wheels, reducing understeer, giving more front end bite and sttering feel. There is also a sublte aerodynamic body kit fitted, which reduces front end lift and looks the business.

The press have reported back that the Jaguar XKR-S feels that bit sharper than the standard XKR, and the modifications are justified, but bemoan the fact that it uses the standard 4.2 V8 supercharged 420 bhp XKR engine with no power upgrade. It seems the 5.0 litre model can't come quickly enough...
